Marilyn Yu
In 2011 Marilyn bought a scooter. A year afterwards she bought her first motorcycle. Today with three Husqvarnas (FE250, FE450, and 701SM) plus an Electric Motion E Pure Race trials bike, it’s safe to say she loves riding. The one thing she doesn’t love is the gear. The options for women are ill-fitting and unflattering.
So what’s a fashion designer to do? Her choices are to not wear safe gear, look bad, or make her own. After many years of looking bad, Marilyn decided to make her own gear. She suspects there are other women out there who want fashionable and functional jackets. Plutonium MOTO features stylish and safe scooter/motorcycle jackets for women.
The Plutonium MOTO studio is located at SHARED, a work-space for creative people to work and collaborate together that Marilyn founded in 2013. It is based in the belief that together we can create greater things than we could individually or in isolation.
Yu’s other works include creating the legend of Eva, a journey of introspection, self-determination, and compassion. There are two books that tell Eva’s story: “Relations that Suck: The Story of Eva and Dries”, a photo book for adults and “La Femme Fatale”, a story and a tool for self-exploration in the format of deck of cards. You can make your own Eva dolls by downloading a pattern-book of Eva dolls.
